No. 12 Cougars Pull Away From Sandburg Women in 2nd Half

Nationally ranked Illinois Central used a flurry at the third quarter to pull away and defeat the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team 76-51 on Saturday afternoon at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
KEY MOMENTS
- The Chargers (6-6) scored the final five points of the first half to go into the locker room down just 32-26. Cora Neal (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) hit a teardrop runner with 1:28 to play, and Destiny Allen (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) fed Faith Price (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) for a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the half.
- Sandburg remained within single digits of the 12th-ranked Cougars (6-4) at 39-31 with 5:45 left in the third quarter when Sophie Whitford (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) knocked down a trey, but ICC scored 17 of the final 19 in the period to extend its lead to 56-33.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Freshman Kelsi Legge (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) scored a team-best 11, including a 3-for-4 effort from downtown. Legge also led the Chargers with three steals and had three assists.
